Sam Houston State University (Huntsville, TX)
Stained Glass Denver is especially proud of our work for Sam Houston State University, where we were entrusted with recreating a historically significant stained glass window that was lost in a devastating 1982 fire. Working from a single reference photograph found in a 1964 yearbook, our artisans digitally reconstructed the design to scale, hand-painted and kiln-fired more than 3,000 pieces of glass, and produced an enlarged and faithful replication that honors both the original artists and the university’s enduring legacy. Since the antique glass used in the historic window no longer existed, our specialists applied as many as ten layers of paint to achieve the precise tones, shading, and depth needed for authenticity. Today, the completed installation—mounted in the renovated Student Center alongside a commemorative plaque—stands as a powerful tribute to resilience, remembrance, and SHSU’s motto: “The measure of a Life is its Service.”
