Our Company Process
Over the past 25 years of being in business, we’ve learned quite a bit about stained glass remodeling and renovation. Over time, we’ve developed a very specific method that we now use on all of our restorations and redesigns. Our process generally follows these steps:
Removal: The stained glass is carefully removed from the wall of the building and brought to our workshop. A temporary piece of ordinary glass is installed in its place.
Cleaning: The glass is soaked in a bath of gentle cleansing solution for up to two weeks. This helps to remove any soot, dirt, grime, or buildup and also makes dismantling the windows easier.
Disassembly: After the windows are cleaned, a blueprint is created of the original design. Then, the individual pieces of glass are numbered and removed one by one.
Replacement: All glass that is in good, reusable condition is set aside and carefully stored. Pieces that are severely damaged or broken are replaced using our stock inventory.
Reassembly: The glass is put back together into a complete window. New leading with a matching profile is used to replace the old leading which is safely discarded. The windows are cemented and reinforced with steel braces for additional support.
Completion: Once the restoration is complete, the window is installed back into its original site. A piece of low-e safety glass may be installed over the window to protect it from the elements and accidental hazards. The owner can enjoy the beauty of the stained glass for several decades longer.
