Transom stained glass for your entryway.

Transom stained glass for your entryway.

Imagine walking into the entryway of your home and seeing the sun shining through the beautiful stained glass transom window that sits above your front door. Now imagine how amazing it would be to see this same window, knowing that it was custom designed just for you . . . with your design input.

At Stained Glass Denver, each piece of stained glass we create is custom designed with the client’s input, and hand-crafted to exact specifications by our master artisans. And stained glass transom windows are one of our most popular applications.

Transom windows have a long architectural history. Have you ever heard the expression, “Over the transom?” Apparently this comes from the practice of writers tossing unsolicited manuscripts through the transom window of a publisher or newspaper.

Originally transoms were used for added ventilation, but these days most of them are non-functional. One of the most common places you’ll find one is over a front door. Sometimes they are rectangular, half moon shape is also really popular, and sometimes in older homes you’ll even find a diamond shape. But as we like to say, where there are transoms, there should be transom stained glass.

What a fantastic use for this non-functional window – to beautify it and your entire entryway along with it. Transom stained glass is affordable and will make a huge difference to the look of your home. If your entryway contains sidelights as well, adding matching custom stained glass to the sidelights as well is a great idea, for a really finished, polished, pulled-together design.

Stained glass transoms have as long of a history as transom windows themselves. Please peruse our stained glass transom gallery. As you’ll probably notice, most of the photos are clear and frosted stained glass. But that doesn’t mean yours has to be. If you’re longing for a jolt of vivid color or something that will really stand out, our designers will work with you to create just that.

When it comes to custom stained glass, the only limits are your imagination and your tastes. When it comes to stained glass transoms, you might like an Art Deco style, you might go for a Celtic knot, you might want something modern and abstract or you might want something inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. (You do know he designed hundreds of stained glass windows, don’t you?)

Whatever your choice for your transom, we will design to your specifications and hand-build the stained glass panel using an effective combination of age-old, traditional and modern methods.
